Education an Inspirational Story

The beginning of week four finds these girls mulling over their respective deficiencies in their chosen areas. Jen believes that her's lies on the volleyball court. I am here to help refute that nigh inconceivable proposition. On the other hand my perfectly legitimate failing is in education particularly in regards to Chemistry, as cleverly illustrated by the Testing Center Monitors yesterday afternoon.

However, I have decided to put the most positive (lacking in electron) twist on this damp beginning as possible. Therefore, I have been searching for inspiration anecdotes on education to bolster moral, up (or down) here.

Decisions, Decisions

Third week into this crazy new life-style and already the choices abound. Do this or that? Go to class or don't? I guess I always knew that I'd always have to make choices, but I guess I figured these would be easy choices, because I knew what I wanted from life. But then suddenly this morning when I wake up with 5 minutes to get ready before class, I was thinking do I really want to go? Then, of course, being me, I threw everything else to the wayside, and went.

A sad sad day

Today didn't set out to be a sad day, in fact it began as an OK day, with potential, but now it just lost it.
The sadness began about midday, right after a really good devotional, when Jen decided to bring up that she is leaving at 5 tomorrow (Wednesday) morning to go to Hawaii.

(Notice how she didn't invite me!) The day was as decent as possible after that. But the volleyball game sent it on a downward spiral. The game began with our side struggling to keep their heads up in sets one and two, despite some excellent playing on the part of Jen. Set three pulled us up, and a repeat set four got us back in the boat. But in the last serves of set five Utah State (boo hiss boo) pushed us back in the lake.

And now today concludes with me watching Jen pack. I think I'll have to do something really exciting over Thanksgiving while she plays more volleyball in CO. (Not that it will begin to cover the fact that basketball is going to HI too.) Oh well, here's to a safe trip and fantastic couple of games for the girls, and adequate survival for me.

Eating Jen's Money

The topic floating around 1116 today is the consumption of Jen's money. Basically the way our dining plans work is that you are given $X/day, and then you can use that money (almost) anywhere you want to, and any left over money goes to an account that builds to $100, and then stops until spent. So in the interest of not wasting money a good student will eat all of their money. Which, as it turns out is a lot harder than it sounds, especially for two girls.

Anyways so the dilemma is, or was rather, the fact that we like to eat at the Hamson's on Sundays, and for Jen in particular she gets fed food before each volleyball game. Thus she had nearly reached her limit this weekend. Therefore to rectify the situation we had a lovely lunch with David and Tresa, in the Skyroom. And for all of you waiting for the dramatic ending...I think she'll be ok when she leaves for HI Wednesday morning. You'll have to wait and see if I survive....=D

Marriage - CES Fireside (9/12/10)

Tonight was our first CES Fireside in the Marriott Center, along with the entire BYU student body. Elder Richard G. Scott presented on temple marriage and having a happy eternal family. It was, to say the least, entertaining and profound. There was a cute couple that he interviewed, who put a personal touch to the talk, along with Elder Scott's wonderful anecdotes from his life. The most memorable piece of advice from the night was to not go on dates to the movies, because it is a terrible way to get to know each other and just plain stupid! For those of you who didn't have the wonderful opportunity of listening to it live I will look for it to come up, and then post the video! Here is the Link for the video, ENJOY!

In the beginning...

In the beginning there were two girls, cousins and the best of friends. Then one day one of them decided to go to BYU and play. So the other followed to study.

Thus we have Jen and Erin, one for play, one for study. You guess which is which.

In the beginning, of this blog, we aren't actually at school. We've gone in search of better food for the weekend and Jen has pulled a Goldilocks and found the best bed for a Sunday cat-nap.

Soon however, (to soon) we will return to school and it will be the beginning of a new school week. Will you join us in our adventures at 1116 BYU?
