In the past couple of weeks Jen has been featured in several articles, one all about her, and a couple more on her successes in her two favorite sports.
The first article is this one about volleyball's win against TCU on the road.
"Stephanie Snow led BYU with 12, followed by freshman Jennifer Hamson with 11 and Christie Carpenter added 10 kills of her own...Hamson led the Cougars with 15 kills, followed closely by Snow and Carpenter with 14 kills each..."
The second article is all about Jen and her amazing ability to juggle two sports, school, me, and be good at all three. Ok so I'm not actually in this article, but I'm pretty sure I should be...
"For some, playing two college-level sports would be too much. Then throw classes on top of that and it would be even more overwhelming. But Judkins said Hamson is unique in the fact that she can handle the situation.
“It’s a pretty difficult thing to do,” Judkins said about playing both sports. “It’s an advantage that Jenny picks things up easy.”"
Slidshow on volleyball's win over Air Force at home .
The third article is about basketball's win over Mesa State at home.
"Mesa State, still unable to make a field goal with four minutes left in the half, passed the ball inside to Kelsey Sigl, only to be stopped by 6-foot-6 Jennifer Hamson, who had 11 rebounds, eight points and three blocks for the night.
Sigl, trying to make some room, elbowed Hamson in the nose and was whistled for the intentional foul. Hamson was taken to the locker room with blood on her jersey, but returned to the game only a few minutes later.
Judkins credited Hamson for her willingness to play hard.
“I didn’t see it, but I trust the ref’s call,” Judkins said. “Jen didn’t say anything to me after, but that’s just the kind of player she is.”"
This last article is about two recent wins the volleyball team had over UNLV and Air Force.
This is my favorite part, "The win Saturday was even more impressive as the Cougars were playing without Hamson, who was with the women’s basketball team for its matchup with No. 5 Duke."
And to round it all off, I found Jen's very first mention in the Daily Universe, from 1998.
"Hamson is a four-time All-American who was twice named as the High Country Athletic Conference Player of the Year. In 1987 she led the nation in scoring, averaging nearly 29 points a game. She also made over 65 percent of her shots to rank second in the nation.
As a senior she was an AWSF First Team All-America, earning the designation of the "Best Center in America."
At the end of her career she held BYU career records for total blocks and best field goal percentage. She is second all-time in points scored, scoring average, career rebounds and rebounds per game.
Hamson and her husband, David, make their home in Lindon and have three children: Jennifer, Alan and Timothy."
As Heather would say, we have a famous family!
