I am aware that it is now February, but January flew by so I still consider this to be the beginning of the year. Moving on.
As this semester moves along its way there has come a time for editing. Changing, altering, readjusting, anytime anyone starts something new this time period comes around, and this semester follows that rule. I had thought that with one semester under my belt I had a handle on college. However, this is one of those extremely rare occasions when I, Erin Hamson, am wrong. I know you are all furiously recording this moment in your calendars and journals, go ahead, I'll wait. Are we all back?
Fantastic. Now you get to hear/read about all the new stuff in my life. I'm excited, are you?
Starting off on a totally superficial note, I want to know what you think of the look of my blogs. Call me...Erin, The Whine and Cheese of 1116, and Hoops and Nets, have all received a face lift, for the better, I hope. So what do you think? Mostly I wonder about this blog. How can I make a front page that captures Jen and Erin? Or maybe I'm just trying to capture Erin writing about Jen? Either way I'm currently going with the "story" of our lives theme. I hope you've caught it.
But on to other things that have changed, I think need to change, or will soon change.
The weather. I'm aware that if you are some one that I communicate with on a fairly regular basis you are already aware of my complaints about the weather. Thankfully Punxsutawney Phil did not see his shadow this year, so we are looking at a quick end to winter. However, I would like to note that for someone coming from southern California, having the temperature below 50 during the day is really a stretch. When you have to spend significant amounts of time walking from class to class, it becomes exhausting trying to stay warm, and then not over heat when the temperature to the building you just walked into is 85 degrees Fahrenheit. Then after you've exhausted your energy during the day some how you are expected to do homework, and then stay awake long after the sun has gone to bed. After that you get up the next morning before the sun, and begin your day all over again.
But more than just the weather, I think this whole season needs to change. No matter what state I've been in, winter has always been my hardest season. I'm not sure what it is, but something about this time of year says, "stop", "take a break", "slow down", even as the world hurtles faster and faster towards the future and expects you to keep up. Maybe I should try chasing summer and see how that works out.

Those are the two main things I feel need to change. I'm looking forward to the upcoming week. Hopefully it will bring a break from the monotony called education.
Wish we could send you a big dose of warm, sunny weather, or better yet, bring it with us when we come!
ReplyDeleteThat would be so fantastic! Mostly the warm though, the sun does ok, it just can't seem to get the warm part right!
